Tarangire National Park is named after river Tarangire which flows through the park and is a perennial river that assures water to both humans and animals even during the dry period. It has an area of 2,850 square kilometers and is located in the southeast of Lake Manyara.
The park is home to a variety of Mammal species like; elephants and migratory wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, impala, gazelle, hartebeest, and eland. Predators like the tree-climbing lions and leopards. The most common reptile seen is African pythons which are mostly spotted on the baobab trees.
The park is home to about 550 bird species like; Kori bustard, ostrich (world’s largest bird), ground hornbills, yellow-collared lovebird, Rufous-tailed Weaver, and ashy starling among others. Termite mounds, dwarf mongoose, and pairs of red-and-yellow barbets are a common sight in the park.

Tarangire ranks as part of the famous northern safari circuit and is definitely visited alongside with Serengeti and the Ngorongoro crater.
