Volcanoes National Park – Gorilla Trekking Rwanda.
this is the most visited National Park in Rwanda. It is located on the northwestern side of Rwanda and bordersMgahinga National Park in Uganda and Virunga National Park in Congo. The Park is a home to 360 rare Mountain Gorillas and also rich montane ecosystem with 3 zones that is the Open grassland, bamboo forest, swamp and heath.
The Park covers an area of 160sqkm and protects the country’s sector of the Virunga Volcanic Mountains with 6 extinct and 3 active Volcanoes. With in the Park there are Volcanic Mountains like Karisimbi which also borders Congo, Bisoke, Sabinyo which is shared by Uganda and Rwanda. Besides the park being a home to the famous rare mountain Gorillas, its also known as being a research base used 20 years ago by an American Female Primatologist Dian Fossey during her study about Mountain Gorillas behaviours.
This is the most vsisted park in Rwanda and because oif itsd tourist activities, the country’s foreign exchange earnings and revenue have rapidly increased and hence economic development
How to get there:
The park can be reached by both private and public means of transport.
By public means, you can get a taxi from either Gisenyi or Kigali and drop you off in Musanze town. However, this is not a reliable since there is no public transport from the town to the Park headquarters. Therefore, private means or using tour company vehicles is the easiest way to access the park.
